Student parents, expectant parents, and any other students interested in sexual health and relationships drop-in to the Jacoby Centre throughout the day. During this time, various topics are addressed. Given the nature of the student population, support is offered according to the needs of the students. All of our student parents face daily obstacles and different pressures than most teenagers. Their diverse needs respond best to innovative solutions that focus on individual empowerment and education, active engagement in parenting, and prioritizing community and health. Our purpose is to build on the strengths, knowledge and insight of our female student parents leading toward an empowered group of student mothers who have skills to succeed and to advocate for themselves, for others and for their community. Ultimately, the Jacoby Centre philosophy of Engagement, Education and Empowerment underlies all Centre programs and activities. As such, we hope to build foundations for healthy parenting, successful education, and self-advocacy among student parents and their communities. Given that each student parent has at least one child and is a member of their own personal family and youth community, our centre believes that the number of people who benefit directly and indirectly is exponential.
