Bag Co-op

The Bag Cooperative is a Jacoby Centre initiative that invites student parents to design and to sell art-tile bags. Each bag is like a canvas. Every student creates individual tiles and screen-prints them on a limited number of bags. Once names are signed, the bags became a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork.

Through this process, feelings of ownership and excitement emerge. In addition, meaningful interactions with peers and staff are created, and participants gain entrepreneurial skills and a strong work ethic. Materials are always accessible to students, and participants are encouraged mentor others who wish to join the cooperative. Bags are sold between $10 - $15 dollars each, with 100% of the proceeds being shared with the student parent artists after covering the cost of the materials. At the request of the participants, some of the proceeds is used to support centre programming
